The largest format war since Beta-Max vs. VHS is officially over… this isn’t a shock though, as things have been dying out for Toshiba and HD-DVD since CES with Warner Bros. and New Line both going Blu. Although I gotta’ say, I never thought it was going to make it from the beginning and I’m surprised the war lasted this long at all. Blu-ray was winning quite some time ago and the numbers (tabulated by amount of players instead of amount of discs) were stacked in the favor of Sony’s format without even including the overwhelming market share of Playstation 3 owners. If you took a look at the listing of Blu-ray supporters and members of the Blu-ray Disc Association a few months back, things would’ve been pretty clear. The members of the association’s board are pretty much the most influential electronics and software manufactures in the industry.
